When Ann Frederick realized there was an unmet need for caps and hats for local cancer patients, she initiated a project to meet that need.
Frederick serves as chairman of the survivorship committee for Greene County Relay for Life . It is she who contacts area survivors and makes arrangements for the survivor reception and photo and the always emotionally moving Survivor Lap.
For the hat project, she enlisted the help of five church groups and many individual volunteers to construct the flexible hats from leftover fabrics and t-shirts.
Pictured are Greene County Medical Center auxiliary members (from left) Beverly Flack, Judy Sankot, Liz Beck and Dena Clause with some of the hats at the Gift Garden near the front entrance of the medical center. The hats are available there now at no charge for cancer patients. A private dressing area is provided for trying on the various styles.
There are four styles and various sizes to choose from, appropriate for men, women, boys, and girls. Also available at the Gift Garden are hat patterns for those who wish to construct their own.
The hats and patterns will also be on display and available at the Greene County Relay for Life event on Saturday, April 26, at the Greene County Community Center.
